The ARRA and included HITECH act include stimulus payments for "meaningful use" of a "certified" EHR. Even in this one sentence, there are a million questions. What does "meaningful use" mean? What is "certified", what is not? These are questions that took over a year to define by the government and when finally defined, took over 1000 pages to do so. 12.30.2010 - Meaningful Use Attestations to be Audited by CMS - It was announced by a director of The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of E-Health Standards and Services that CMS will audit to ensure attestations for meaningful use incentive payments are legitimate. No specifics about the audits were provided. No written documentation about the audit process has been released.

10.23.2010 - Final rules have been published and first payments are scheduled to begin in May of 2011. Providers will be able to start registering for stimulus payments in January of 2011.
